BANG!!!
Hello.
Wondering...what exactly do the tribe members here do to get THEIR adrenaline? (You see, there is a disturbing lack of messages to read here...I've read the moderator's post, but what's with everyone else?)

Re: Explosive Dynamic Entry
Wed, December 3, 2003 - 8:31 PMI'll start.
I do off-road driving, a commute at irresponsible vehicular speeds, and when I was stationed in Hawaii I used to Kayak in somewhat rough (and large...in a multi-story building sort of way) surf.
I also used to clear landmines and blow stuff up with explosive demolitions (door knocker charges, other types of silhouette charges, advanced steel cutting ribbon charges, 40 lbs. factory shapes, field expedient bangalores, fougasse, platter charges, etc. etc., yada, yada, yada, what-have-you...). Essayons. (If you don't know...don't ask.)
Anyone ever done any mountaineering? That stuff scares the hell out of me.... -

Re: mountaineering
Thu, January 27, 2005 - 11:21 AMThe most important piece of equipment in mountaineering is information. As opposed to skydiving or kayaking, the actual gear you need is relatively straightforward. (backpack, boots, ice axe, rope, crampons, clothing, etc) You just have to do a lot of research in what to take with you and how to use it. A good all-round reference is "Mountaineering", published by the mountaineers press. I like mountaineering more for the aesthetic beauty of total solitude than for the rush of sheer terror.

Re: Explosive Dynamic Entry + Mountaineering
Sun, March 13, 2005 - 2:58 PM
:) I used to drive 100+ mph on windy roads in the hills of appalachia, race other motorcyclists while splitting lanes on the bay bridge, blow stuff up (200000 lbs of dynamite) for research, race roadie and mountain bikes, work in hazmat (asbestos and nukes), shoot guns...
Now I am older and wiser and only surf, go rock climbing, ice climbing, mountaineering (technical routes, abroad), ride my bicycle in the city.....
you really outta try mountaineering, nothing like being high up on a route, 4 days away from the nearest civilization, your brain all drugged up from the altitude, hungry, cold, and in pain, your life depending on and you and your partner's skill, and wether the mountain and weather smile at you today....to make those problems back home seem really small and make you feel really alive -

Re: Explosive Dynamic Entry + Mountaineering
Sun, November 6, 2005 - 1:08 PMI'm new to this tribe, so I figure this was a good post to reply to. I've ridden motorcycles of all types most of my life, crashed a lot, but amazingly enough, never broke a single bone. Rollerblades- same deal, I've been hang gliding for 27 years, and enjoy the cross country aspect of the sport. Just as in motorcycles, there are different types of doing what you love. Some people just want to skim the dunes at the coast, seeing how close they can come without making contact. Others are into aerobatics, and doing flat spins and consecutive loops are what they enjoy. For me, running down a steep slope until you reach flying speed, searching for lift and coring it 'til you get cold, touring a mountain range, and landing a hundred miles away gives me a reason for living. You need to use everything you learn over the years to stay up in challenging conditions. Most of my friends have been in a situation where they made a miscalculation and find themselves in sink, far from any road, and nowhere to land. You pray for help, and just when you resign yourself to a tree landing, you see a pair of red tailed hawks circling in lift a few hundred feet away. You make a beeline for them and the three of you climb a few thousand feet together, sharing the air, until they pull their wings in and head off. This is a sport where you can have a blast just getting your feet off the ground as you glide down a cow pie covered hill. But the first time you get above launch, the first time you get high enough to see the golden gate bridge to the west and snow on the sierras to the east, or the first time you leave the safety of your own site and fly downwind to who knows where, is almost indescribable in it's perfection. You may choose to fly in calm conditions, or go searching for huge air, where you'll find enormous altitude gains, followed by drops in elevation that'll leave your stomach somewhere way above you. It's all good. No, it's all GREAT!

Re: Explosive Dynamic Entry
Tue, January 27, 2004 - 4:41 PMfor me it's always doing something new and being on the move in one way or another, be it spontaneous travel, trying new things, racing (motorcycle) on the track, rock climbing, or cave kayaking up north..
I really want to try kite-boarding this year. I've seen it over in Alameda and have wanted to give it a try. Also on the list is getting certified in scuba. Last year was flying and I want to continue that but we'll see where the $ is.. -

Re: Explosive Dynamic Entry
Wed, January 28, 2004 - 7:34 PMwell, where to start.... bungee jumping was first. that grew old so I need more freefall time, so skydiving was next. Still do it. Scuba diving has become my latest little spin. I still say its easier to screw yourself up underwater than it is in the air. Just for kicks, while doing a shark feeding dive, the last two years I've actually touched sharks without any cage or protection around me. Granted they are not great whites but a shark is a shark. As far as explosives go, I don't get to play with them frequently; however, when I do, its usually to photograph them, so I can convince others that i need to be located a bit closer. I was approximately 75-100 yards from a deomonstration of a Large vehicle disruption.... that one sent the hair flying back and then a second or two later, it was pulled forward again..... -

Re: Explosive Dynamic Entry
Thu, January 27, 2005 - 10:01 PMlike chris, i started with bungee, went to skydiving and am now taking my scuba certification classes. the only explosives i get to be around are your run of the mill fireworks, not a lot of a rush there.

Re: Explosive Dynamic Entry
Fri, March 11, 2005 - 11:33 AMHmmm.... I used to do a lot of adrenaline sports (downhill mountain biking, caving, static jumping, rock climbing, scuba), but I've narrowed down my sports to hang gliding, big wave surfing, and snowboarding. I'm occasionally doing skydiving, but it's not as fun as hang gliding. -

Re: Explosive Dynamic Entry
Fri, May 19, 2006 - 2:22 PMI'm always looking for something new. ATV freestyle for about a year and skydiving since December. I'm also thinking about trying kite boarding this summer. -

Re: Explosive Dynamic Entry
Sun, May 21, 2006 - 10:08 AMI've recently watched a number of kiteboarding videos- looks like an absolute blast! I have a couple of land powerkites and I'm building a pair of doomwheels (google it). Cheap, fast, and wind-powered. Kiteboarding is huge in England, and I see it a lot on the bay.
